Outlook dilemma

Options
I must be going mad. Using outlook for my emails I need to check on mail for something I was dealing with in December 2022. Checking the Inbox - both focus, other, archive I can find no reference to the situation. However on searching some names that I remember some info appears! Am I being stupid? As I can't remember lots of the names (council) I must be missing something. Help appreciated please.

if you scroll down to the bottom of your inbox you might find that a lot of the older ones have been archived.  I had this for a while when it would archive anything older than 30 days, another time it was older than a year.  It seems to change at random.  Made searching an absolute pain.  There's a way to set it to not archive at all but I can never remember how to do that.

Depending on the email server you use, Outlook may be holding cached emails for limited period into the past. This can be changed to 'All' so the local data file contains all emails.

  • Vitor - can you explain this in more detail please?

If the email server you connect to is using Exchange then only (by default) the last year’s emails are held on your computer. The rest are kept on the server.

If you get to the bottom of a list such as a search there will be an option to check the mails on the server as well.

    Who is your email provider?
  • Ok thanks to my tech savvy daughter - I've been using the app on my phone. When I open outlook website the messages are all there! Thanks to all.

Probably best to use the Mobile forum for phone queries.
