Currently on loyal octopus 12m fixed tariff until March 2025 23.35p/kwh unit rate with 65.37p/day standing charge.
I’ve bought a plug-in hybrid and considering switching to octopus go which offers night rate 8.5p/kwh and day rate 22.28p/kwh but is not fixed.
Worried that this could mean they can hike the price up anytime and I think forecast is rising energy prices - am I better off sticking until March?
Another option is the intelligent go tariff (also variable) but I can’t be bothered with the faff of the app every day to charge the car as usually wrestling 3 children and lots of stuff out of the car!

Personally I am on the Octopus Intelligent Go for 7p/kwh during the night?
You just plug in and Octopus automatically sorts when the car will charge.
The day rate has gone down this year with the standing charge going up slightly which overall brings a saving for me but obviously nobody has a crystal ball.0 -
To be on Octopus Intelligent Go you either need the right model of car or the right model of charger. If you have neither you cannot take this tariff.Reed0

it’s ultimately a gamble, if you like certainty stay on the tariff you’re on. If you’re happy to take a risk, and we already know that the price cap will rise next time which will mean your rates will go up. I expect what you have now, will be cheaper than the next cap.I have a plug in hybrid and am on Agile with I love. I rarely use electric of any significance between 4&7pm, but without the car it wouldn’t work out any cheaper than Tracker. I’m currently saving around 40% against flexible, with an average unit rate of 10ish pence.0 -
The Octopus Go tariff has been running for a good number of years now and I think based on their track record they are unlikely to hike the off peak rates massively.1
