I want to change my password on my laptop as the kids no what it is and are using it to download and stuff.

Its my work laptop and the user account part of it is different than normal so i assume the geeks at work have adjusted it?

    Try this, hope it works....

To open Computer Management, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management.

In the system tools down the left open local users and groups then open users, find your user name and right click, hopefully there's a set password option.

Although the warning is pretty scary, use at your own risk.
 Can anyone explain to me how to put a signature here?
  • Chilli, Do you log onto a "domain" via your laptop? If so you won't be able to change the password when you are at home (if you're not plugged into your work network). It depends how thing have been set up on your laptop for work purposes.

You could try to set a screensaver password, however sometimes this is set to be the same as your domain login password. Meaning, there's not much you can do to change your password if you are not plugged into the work network.

  • try, start, run, nipearlobe, and twist clockwise, while repeating the words, "leave my work laptop alone if you want me to remain in a job, and have a roof over your head".
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Instead of changing your XP password, set a bios password. When you turn your laptop on presss F2 or DEL key (or look for a message saying press ... to enter setup).

You can then tell the bios to ask for your password when the laptop is turned on. This will be more secure than XP password (as the XP one can easly be reset/bypassed or cracked (with local access).

Of course the BIOS can also be reset, but this involves taking the laptop appart.
  • Thanks all for your help.

specially liked the one were i twist the kids ears!!

Bios password should be enough, never thought of that.

I do log into a work domain so that why i cant change the password.

    Thanks Again
