Eon Next Default and Duplicate Account on Credit File

I’ve been checking my credit file and Eon Next have registered a default against my file for an overdue electricity account at my previous address.
I have Eon Next my new address when I moved, and gave them the final meter reading and they issued a final bill, all of which I have email evidence of. However, the default on my credit file has my old address on it still.
I’ve logged into my eon next account and they’ve not updated my address and under the correspondence section there is no default notice, so they’ve registered the default without issuing a default notice.
The second issue is that since the default has been issued, eon next have logged a second account on my credit file, for the same debt (the balance is the same but the account number is different), and that account is showing as ‘active’.
I have contacted eon next to try and get this resolved but they only seem to want to agree repayments by me filling in an online form that doesn’t let me because it keeps saying an account already exists for the account number (which it doesn’t).
Any suggestions how I deal with the issue of the default with no default notice and the duplicate account?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

A default notice is only sent when the agreement is CCA regulated, a service agreement is not CCA regulated, so does not apply in this case.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. All you can do is complain, Eon are useless, send a written complaint to them.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Just following up on this.
i have been in contact with Eon Next and they are adamant that their reporting is correct. This is a quote from their email…
“Because the first account was defaulted a new one had to be opened and I have been informed that the shares are valid because of this.”Now, as the energy account is not live (ie I moved from the property and eon next do not supply my current property), so there’s no valid reason for them opening a new account as it’s not like they are billing me for current usage.
I have asked for a formal complaint to be opened but I wanted to ask if my thinking is correct in that they can’t just open a second account on my credit file because they’ve defaulted the first one?To be clear, the ‘new one’ has the same ‘account opening’ date, the same balance outstanding but just a different account number.0 -
If you can pay this off you are in a position to say this is being incorrectly recorded.
Pay it off
Raise a formal complaint
Escalate it to the ICO

Any thoughts on the above as I’ve now been told that I will be receiving a deadlock letter so that I can take my complaint to the ombudsman.Personally feel like Eon Next are taking the mick with the way they think they can treat people.0

Hi, i am also having issues with EON even wrote to the CEO and similar to the rest of the bad customer service no response.
I had moved and was made aware of an alledged bill owed in June, i have present evdience that i moved the account away from them, as soon as we moved into the hpuse which used EON!
They have chased for alledged monies owing from 2021, we left the propoerty in 2022 and in June 2024 they said i owed 485.00. I contested it with their litigation yeam, even offered to pay, whilst i try and sort out but they logged a default in September.
I chased numberous times and i finally received a response from the customer service team, who said its too complex for them to resolve it has to go the ombudsman! I am now pulling this together.
I have paid the alledged outstanding amount but confirmed i still dispute this, as its more damage limitation for my credit record. They havent updated my credit record to confirm paid.
EON is an absolute joke and their parting shot to me was its better for you to go to the ombudsman as only after them will we review your concerns / complaint. They havet follwed the required complaints process either!
Good luck with yours and i know its not much comfort but i suspect alot of people will be ina similar positon as we are 'david' and they are the goliaths!!!0
