Midland Bank Pension

Hi,
This is quite a long shot but I worked for Midland bank for two years in my late teens, 17-19 years old, and wondered if I ever paid into any sort of pension scheme way back then and if I may be entitled to anything.

when was this? some schemes didn't kick in until a certain age and some also just pay you back contributions if you leave within a certain time

I started working for midland bank in 1983 at that time I believe you had to be 21 for their scheme

I think that was quite often the case wasn't it - suspect OP might have been too young but suppose depends when it was

Better than my place. I mentioned in another thread it was 25 - (City of London Insurance broker)
    I joined when I was 16.

If you left before 6 April 1988 definitely not (you wouldn't have had five years of pension scheme membership).

If you left after that date you would need to have had at least two years of pension scheme membership (not just employment). Out of interest I've just done a bit of delving and there may not have been a minimum age for joining the scheme - so your exact dates of employment might be key:

Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Hi, I worked for the Midland Bank from the age of 18-20 back in the early 80s. I certainly don’t recall paying into a pension scheme however I contacted HSBC a few years ago who confirmed I was a pension scheme member and I took a lump sum payment earlier this year when I turned 60.

My wild guess would be 'no' for the reasons Marcon gave, however contact the current administrators, EQ (https://myhsbcpension.eqtpa.co.uk/contacts/ - you'll want the Defined Benefit Members contact given hybrid membership postdates the HSBC takeover of Midland).

Yes, but the rules of the Midland Bank's scheme!
I'd have thought that would be obvious, particularly as posts in the thread refer to schemes other than Barclays; I myself offered the example of the Natwest scheme.
