This are you trying to login from different machine or ISP connection, as gmail at times does detects such things. Did you have any phone no. attached for recovery?

And vice versa.

I went to the official Microsoft web page, didn’t follow any of the links in the emails

I did it click on any of the links in the emails. I searched for the Microsoft website and went on there.
