Just to come back with an update as Octopus responded to me.

Basically I need to give it a couple week for it all to do its thing so to speak. Everything should be sorted within 2 week.

    Allegedly.
Yes, I waited two weeks and longer, and nothing has improved.

Yesterday, I got this from Octopus:

"It appears that we have the old one set up again which is why it is not sending this through. I have requested for this to be removed for you and then we can update the correct IHD set up for you."

I am not sure whether they are referring to the meters or the IHDs.

Given that the meter point numbers remain the same, I wonder whether a database setup is needed to associate the new meter serial numbers with the existing ones. I have no confidence that this will work itself out quickly.

It can take a few weeks to show but mine never showed.  However, I never intended to use the EDF supplied one as its next to useless.  I bought a third party one that has more data and that worked within minutes.

Thank you, dunstohn. The newly supplied IHD will be useless to me, but I was hoping to use it as a vehicle to fix other shortcomings. I would buy a Bright device, but with the system in its current state, I would expect it not to work.

  • In case anyone does a search on this in the future, it turns out (after much intervention on my part) that Octopus' database lists both my old and new meter devices against my meter point numbers. I now have to wait for the backroom to delete the old meter devices and IHD.

  • What IHDs do you guys use then? Obviously that is aimed at folk who use IHDs & not those who would reply - I don't, mine is in the drawer.

I contacted octopus, followed their how to but it's not doing at all.

Mines from Octopus, company address on the back says it’s made by Chameleon Technology. It’s worked perfectly since the installer handed it to me. I only really use it, in the main, to read the meter reading which I put daily into an IOS app. I also have the Bright App installed. I keep meaning to play with other apps but never get round to it!
  • I ve unplugged mine after a few months in use . I used it to find out usage rates for small things like TV settings where I found out that my 55 inch OLED screen uses 250 watts on dynamic mode but 150 watts on eco mode..Also electric blanket watt use in the six settings which I could not find anywhere from the manufacturer. The IHD is great for things like how much my microwave was using on the screen ( 3 watts ) coffee machine switched off was using 8 watts .Modum 5 watts and the IHD itself I got it to using 3 watts ..TV standby was 1 watt on new TV but 15 watts on my second older  TV ..All these little usages added up .
It was no use at all in telling me usage in money as it was using the price for the day on Tracker  when it was installed so only used 17 p a kWh to calculate the price .

If it says  Chameleon on the back it's most likely an IHD3.
See if this is any help https://chameleontechnology.co.uk/solutions/smart-in-home-displays/#ihd3
    Is your working yet?
On top of your Smart Meter, there's the Comms Hub. Does yours have 5 lights? If so, are the SW, WAN & HAN (1st, 2ns &4th) flashing in unison every 5 seconds?

Mine is the one that was in the house when we moved in last year -  as supplied by Eon when the smart meters were fitted I would guess. Looking at the earlier link, it would appear to be an IHD3 again.

I use the IHD to get the meter reading for the gas once a month, and just for ad hoc checks one "live" use at home, and it is used in conjunction with a home mini to more closely monitor what is happening, to work out what certain devices use and that sort of thing.

I also have both the Bright and Loop apps, and those are handy for a double check if there are any glitches with the meter readings not appearing as they should.

  • Ours is an IHD3 as well.  I don't actually use it myself at the moment as I'm pretty much stuck in my bedroom and the IHD is in the kitchen, but it has been useful to see what Wattage certain appliances are.  Particularly the shower, which says it's an 8.5kW but turns out to be less than that.  And it is (was) usually more convenient to glance at the IHD than get my phone out to look at the Octopus app to see power draw via the Octopus Home Mini - but I use that for usage information.

    They both have their uses
