Dentist insurance

I have been told all of a sudden I need to have expensive dentist treatment including mouthguards and ongoing work.
Can anyone recommend a good insurance that covers existing issues and preferably orthodontics as well, starting ASAP?
My work one (Unum) covers some but not much and was hoping there was a better option out there.

An insurance company that covers existing issues isn't going to be in business for long!1

Nope. You have to have an 'all clear' report from your dentist for ANY sort of dental insurance0

Once you already know you need the treatment, you usually can't get insurance for it.
That would be like trying to buy car insurance after having a crash and expecting them to pay for the repairs.
Or, to think about it another way, what insurance premium would you set for someone that you are 100% certain is going to make an expensive claim? Something that is at least the cost of the claim, so what would be the point?0 -
You cannot get insurance that will cover the costs you're going to incur, it's too late for that. It's like trying to bet on a horse race just as the horses near the finishing line.
Some cash plans dont have a pre-existing condition exclusion on dentistry but they tend to have fairly low limits and if its embedded in a broader cash plan the amount claimed for dentistry alone will be less than the premiums and so it will only make economic sense if you also end up needing to claim on other sections too.0 -
I'd be inclined to get a second opinion if possible before agreeing to any dental work.0
