I despair with the wonks at Ebay head office. What brain-dead business "expert" came up with the idea to encourage customers to cancel their purchases? I have noticed in the past few weeks an increase in buyers cancelling.
I go through periods of people deciding to cancel , won't have any for months and months, perhaps years then I'll get three in a fortnight. I always block them once I cancel (assuming parcel isn't already out of the door ) .

Unpopular opinion perhaps, but I approve of this. When "buyers remorse" means the cost/hassle of fake SNAD or INR claim I'd rather they just cancelled before the item is collected by RM next day. Shame Ebay didn't offer an 'accept and block' button though for cancellation requests!

Even without an auto button I tend to block them anyway.

  • I've never blocked anybody for cancelling yet. A good example of why I haven't, is somebody brought an item from me for £16 on Saturday and then wanted to cancel it. No reason why. I agreed reluctantly and then relisted at £1 more. The same buyer than purchased it again on Sunday for £17. Go figure.

That’s why I block, I don’t trust someone who can’t decide whether or not they want something. I have been selling online for years now and have had several issues with buyers who are either lacking a bit of understanding or are just messing around. One I will always remember was years ago when blocking wasn’t quite so simple, she bought an item and paid (some mid priced sunglasses ) and I wrapped and just as I was about to send later that day she emailed to say she had found some cheaper so would I refund part, I declined and she asked to cancel- and again in those days it was a real faff.

Cancelled and relisted straight away and before I could block her she’d bought again , when I queried it she was confused as she wondered why I was selling the same sunglasses cheaper on 2 different accounts. Except I wasn’t, she’d paid the same both times and on the same account. When she realised she had paid the same price again she was really cross and accused me of cheating her as she said I’d had them up for cheaper , a bit of going and froing and she asked to cancel as again she’d found a cheaper identical pair.

I cancelled and blocked this time only to get a message a few hours later demanding that I allow her to buy as the other seller was actually dearer as their postage was silly (it didn’t show as easily as it does now), and threatened me with all sorts of nonsense if I refused. I just reported her to eBay .
