Octopus fixed tariff rate question
Hi all,
Wonder if someone could answer this for me please?
Considering switching from BG (currently on standard variable tariff) to Octopus's fixed tariff (did the cheap energy club comparison and the Octopus standing charges and elec unit rate are lower than what I'm currently paying, just the gas unit rate is a touch higher). Also just sick of BG.
However the Octopus unit price for electricity shows as 22.55p/kWh on the cheap energy club page, but when I do a quote on the Octopus website it shows as 27.9p/kWh (day rate). I don't know much about this stuff and tried to think why there's a difference - I only notice in the Octopus quote that there's a day rate and a night rate (12.44p/kWh). Could anyone explain the difference in the two Octopus figures for me? Is the cheap energy club figure of 22.55 some kind of average between the Octopus day and night rates?

Prices vary by area. Are you using the correct area in both places?0

I wondered if it was a regional variation but have entered the same address in both websites.0

It seems to be too big a difference to be inc/exc VAT. Fixed deal prices have been changing quite a frequently, so it may be the CEC quoted offer has been superseded. Check that the version number of the tariff is the same in both places.0

Thanks for your reply. That was one of my other thoughts too - that they may have just increased it. On the CEC it's listed as version 3, but the quote on the Octopus website (or in the quote email) isn't showing me a version number so I can't tell...0 -
Are you sure you're not comparing Economy 7 rates with Standard rate0

Tricky to tell if it's worth it now. BG's fix electric rate at 22.57p/kWh or the Octopus electric at 27.9p/kWh during the day and 12.44p/kWh at night. (Currently paying 22.78p/kWh with BG, going up to 25.02p/kWh in October).
Our gas usage is quite low so I'm more concerned with the electricity... Any advice for how to compare the single BG rate figure against the two Octopus day/night rates?0 -

Octopus quoting me 23.01p currently single rate. Up slightly since yesterday. I presume the op has dual rate meter.0
