Aviva via Nationwide travel ins

Has anyone had to make a travel ins claim since Aviva has replaced UK travel with Nationwide?

We have had such good service from UK Travel over the years so hope Aviva will be as good. You never know how good an insurance company is until you need to make a claim......

UK Insurance is the legal entity behind Direct Line, Churchill etc. I'm somewhat surprised that Nationwide stayed so long with them, they were originally written by Churchill but then RBS (Direct Line's parent at the time) bought out Churchill and merged it in with Direct Line. RBS had to divest itself of its insurance arm as part of their 2008 bailout but there was always noises that Nationwide would move elsewhere as soon as their contract was up.

That aside, have had Travel insurance underwritten by Aviva, not rebranded to Nationwide, that I claimed on. Was a simple claim and was paid out in 48 hours or so (without me using industry connections to speed things along)

Nationwide Aviva may not have the same terms as a standard Aviva stand alone policy

Absolutely hence why point out that its not the Nationwide product, it also was a co-branded policy.

It will also depend on if its direct with Aviva or if there is another middleman in the supply chain, a former client used to offer white label travel insurance as an MGA (ie someone else's capacity was behind it) and with them the white labler could pay more for soft elements like preferential telephone number, discretion to be applied rather than hard terms etc etc. This impacted the wholesale price but the company could set the retail price... it was interesting to see some of the choices, one well known brand who's argue its place as a people organisation took none of the optional extras but had the highest price compared to one cut price brand who tool all the optional extras and sold it at cost.
  • We went on a 90 day world trip two years ago. The upgrade then with UK insurance under Nationwide was £150. We thought we'd do the same this winter, Aviva want £750. We'll be looking at leaving Nationwide.
