Travel Insurance for elderly-an easier option?

Hi All,
I am looking for travel insurance for my mum for a week holiday in Turkey. She is 78 and has a few issues like hypertension etc but it seems if you are waiting for any test results (investigation) the prices skyrocket. I wanted to know if anyone had any tips or ideas, alternatives, is there any way just to have a basic medical cover for example? many thanks

I was waiting a test result when I was trying to buy travel insurance earleir this year and came across the same problem. Avanti Travel Insurance would cover me, but I think they were going to exclude every pre-exisitng medical condition until the test results were back. This made it too risky for me to take out the insurance. So my advice would be to wait until the test results are back and not book the holiday until you know that she can get cover.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

The difficulty when there are outstanding test results is that  the risk  of needing to cancel or incur medical treatment abroad cannot be  assessed.

That risk is noit just the condition itself but how it may affect anything else arising.

e.g  having high blood pressure could be the cause of a person stumbling and falling , rwsulting in a broken leg. This is the type of risk the insurance company assess and charge accordingly.

Without a diagnosis they cannot  assess what risk it poses.

It is possible to obtain cover excluding all medical conditions  but that is  a big risk to take as there would not be  any cover for  any medical  cover, including getting you home if necessary.

We used Advanti when my husband was waiting for a diagnosis, for one holiday (docs cleared him to travel), and now we have an annual policy using insurancewith.com their price was really good, worldwide cover for both of us for £300 ish. I even had a claim pay out within 2 days after loosing my new prescription glasses on our recent holiday with them. Do check the single article limit though, I didn't spot it was only £200 - I'll change that next time we renew.

I'm on two types of tablets for blood pressure control - our travel insurance company includes it as a pre-existing condition without any additional cost.
That suggests that it may only become an additional risk (requiring an extra on the policy cost) where associated with other medical issues ?
There does not appear to be a one size fits all scenario for BP conditions.

You have declared the condition and thye have accepted it as a negligible risk if being a claim.

That was just an example of how a claim for an incident  could be denied because of a condition not being declared.

An unknown condition , whatever it is,  awaiting tests,  would mean it was not being medicated , which makes the difference.

Things can compound conditions be that other conditions and/or factors like age... a 40yo with high blood pressure may be considered not a big risk, a 90yo with high blood pressure could be a very different thing
