Office and Publisher conflict

New PC with Windows 11 came with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) all working well. Then I installed my version of Microsoft Publisher via DVD that I have moved from W7 to W10 without issue. Publisher fires up and I can see and open my old .pub files. Later, when I tried to find a Word file and open it, I find that Microsoft Office has gone! Anyone had this? I had to reinstall Office via MY MS account. I also had to remove Publisher.

Does Publisher completely uninstall Office or just make it unusable?

Unless you pin what you want everything will eventually drop off the Start Menu/Recommended section on the first screen.Word for example is under W in Windows 11.
With regards to the Publisher, if its just Publisher on its own it shouldn't have made any difference to the Office on the computer (but I suspect its more likely its Publisher as part of Office, and while it is possible to have multiple versions of Office installed (providing they aren't both subscription models), only one can be the default).1 -
If you've subscribed to Microsoft 365 Personal then the latest version of Publisher should be OK to download and install. Buy Microsoft Publisher - Standalone Price & Software | Microsoft Store

Completely uninstalled it.HillStreetBlues said:Does Publisher completely uninstall Office or just make it unusable?0 -
No, Office was a full version bought and paid for and not a subscription version (I refuse to pay monthly for something I can buy outright - I ditched Photoshop for that very reason). It had definitely gone! When I first turned on and used the new PC, the office apps I used most were pinned by me to the task bar and start menu.Neil_Jones said:Le_Kirk said:New PC with Windows 11 came with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) all working well. Publisher 2002 was (and still is - I have the DVD) a fully paid up version and, as I said, has successfully moved with me from various other machines from Windows 7 to 10 and now 11. It is a separate version and not part of Office. and I fully agree with this but it did!0 -
No, I have not subscribed (see above) and I do have my DVD of Publisher 2002 which, until now had assumed (maybe dangerously) would work under W11. I have a work around in that my old W10 M/C is upstairs replacing my old W7 machine, so I do my work on that, then send the completed file by Wi-Fi to my printer downstairs! I am getting fit trotting up and down stairs!Vitor said:If you've subscribed to Microsoft 365 Personal then the latest version of Publisher should be OK to download and install.
