    If you start the legal process (as defined by The Leasehold Reform Act 1967), you can sell the house, and the buyer can complete the process.



    But if you negotiate informally, you're asking about "
    Once the Freeholder has agreed to sell the Freehold..." 

    It's like agreeing to sell a house - nothing is binding until you sign and exchange contracts.

    So a freeholder might offer to sell you the freehold for, say, £10k - but later withdraw their offer, change the price of the offer, or change the terms of the offer.

    (Potentially the day before you exchange contracts, the freeholder could say "I've changed my mind, I want £25k for the freehold, instead of £10k.)

    I will need to weigh up the time and costs it will take to complete on buying the Freehold (via the informal) and against the legal process (as defined by The Leasehold Reform Act 1967),for the buyer to complete the process.


  • The Freeholder says that they are not looking to dispose of the freehold of the property which I was expecting.  Is there something else I can do myself before, I instruct a solicitor in November and the Freehold will take some months?
