Struggling to get car insurance

we got insurance in my son’s name when he was 17 but had to pay the full amount up front (not monthly instalments). I assume this is because under 18s can’t enter into credit agreements. They were happy to accept my credit card. I should add we had a telematics policy for the first year as it was the only way to make it reasonable!!0

Telematics is an option, but don't assume it is cheapest. Never has been in the last 4 years for our daughter (or at least significantly enough to be worth the hassle).
Telematics policies can have restrictions such as not driving at night.
But certainly worth considering if it is a must.0 -

That is fronting and illegal.
The correct option is for your son to get insurance in his own name.0 -
Is he commuting only or using the car for the actual job?0
