Not paying £100 for any new customer acquisitions via £50 each referrals maybe another factor.+ not doing advertising/marketing that larger suppliers do.lohr500 said:I'm trying to keep up with all the replies on this, but something is puzzling, or more truthfully, worrying me!!
Aside from their very low six hour off peak rate of 5p per unit and a refreshing peak rate of 23.16p per unit, how the h*** can Tomato Energy be offering me a daily S/C of 40.82p per day for my electricity, when EDF currently charge me 67p per day?
My switch is due to take place on Wednesday.
I can only conclude that either Tomato Energy will be another failed energy supplier within a few months or the mainstream suppliers are taking the proverbial.0 -
Just looking at that table, and shamelessly trying to leach off the time you've spent, does that mean suppliers pay network costs on both a per customer, and a per kWh basis?BarelySentientAI said:

If you take Eastern as an example, they pay £87.45 per customer and then about 3.9p per kWh from my maths.
Whether they pay strictly that much in exactly those proportions is up for debate (they probably don't, just like they don't pay exactly the 'wholesale' allowance for the energy), but that's as good as we can get really.0 -
Move to a part of the UK where there are companies that don't have a standing chargeIbroxCreative said:Energy Companies charging us to have THEIR equipment on OUR properties so they can, rent free, feed us overpriced gas and electricity, is utterly outrageous. I didn't realise it was happening until I told them I wanted to be disconnected and they informed me I'd still have to pay a service fee!
I've just sent Octopus an Invoice for £2,029 for rental of my land for their conduits and meters from when I joined them in 2019, at £338p.a.
How dare they add a third onto my bill, as a single pensioner, on the lower state pension, especially when they charge a family of 6 the same standing charge.
A standing charge isn't acceptable in any case. It should be their cost of running a vastly profitable concern.
A company providing a service doesn't charge you for the vehicle they bring their equipment in. And if they were to leave that vehicle on your property, you would expect them to pay for parking, NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND!!
I am furious and will pursue this all the way to the courts.0 -
Your will spend more pursuing this than the lifetime of the standing charge35har1old said:

Hey @IbroxCreative - are you still with us? there have been some good points raised on your thread, and perhaps some misapprehensions corrected - it might be a good idea for you to review what's been written before you run to the expense of starting court proceedings that you are unlikely to win.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

The total price of maintaining the network and supplying the volume of energy has to be paid by the consumers of that energy. So those ad hoc costs, whether its cable maintenance or vehicle cost is either baked into the overall price or charged separately. The question is just which model to use - its not uncommon to have delivery and installation fees in many industries.IbroxCreative said:How dare they add a third onto my bill, as a single pensioner, on the lower state pension, especially when they charge a family of 6 the same standing charge.

In the case of energy supply the installation and piping is a significant part of the cost is the maintenance which is higher for 6 singles living in 6 houses than it is for a family of 6 using the same cable/pipe. So its fair for each household to pay its share of the maintenance and installation if they want to disconnect etc. The electricity usage is indeed going to increase per person, but then that's taken care of by having part of the charge per unit.
Rent isn't something you can decide after the fact, regardless of how fairly or unfairly you derived that number. If both sides agree to £xx rent then going forward that would be due (hint the energy co won't agree). If not, then they haven't damaged anything so there's nothing due.IbroxCreative said:I've just sent Octopus an Invoice for £2,029 for rental of my land for their conduits and meters from when I joined them in 2019, at £338p.a.
If you want their kit off your property then that's your right.. but you're still subject to the contract with the energy co, which would have stated that you AGREED to pay £yyy for disconnection.0
