To fix or not to fix?
Options
I moved into my house 18 months ago and British Gas customer service ignored me when I reported that the gas meter was unreadable. I switched to Octopus and they fitted a readable gas meter but I am looking to fix before the October price cap and their fix is 4% above the October price cap. Does anyone have any suggestions as to who is offering a decent fix? I’m on variable rate so I don’t have any exit fees to pay.

The one year Octopus fix presently available, 12M Fixed August 2024 v3, is 4% above the July price cap, not the October cap, and is in line with other offerings from most of the major suppliers.1

i have just gone with 'outfoxthemarket' which came up as the cheapest 1 year fix in various comparison sites. It was slightly more expensive than my previous variable tariff with EDF but with the 10% increase announced for October I will be quid's in over the winter.

I fixed with Octopus because they don't have an exit fee, so I assume I'm at liberty to look around for a cheaper deal before the contract expires next September.1

You have missed the very cheapest deals by some months.
We fixed with Outfox the Market in May and that was the cheapest deal they have had this year. Their fixes have crept back up again now and also include exit fees where the earlier tariff choices had no exit fees.0
