Octopus Bank Holiday Recharge - Intelligent Octopus

We’re giving you 50% off Intelligent charging on Monday night.

When you charge up after your Bank Holiday adventures this weekend, it could be even cheaper than usual.

Here’s what you need to do to get the Bank Holiday Recharge:

- Plug in on the night of Monday 26th August

- Keep the car unplugged on Tuesday 27th August night

Do this, and we’ll make any Intelligent-scheduled EV charging on Monday night 50% off. (That’s just EV charging, so you can skip the tumble dryer marathon!)

Within two weeks, we’ll work out what you used during the Bank Holiday Recharge and credit your Octopus account 50% back!

If for any reason we can’t get your readings from Monday, we’ll credit you the average across your fellow Intelligent drivers.

Another nice little treat from Octopus!

    That is nice of them.

Don't forget the octopus haters will be along to say they are making so much profit and screwing everyone and that's why they can do this lol.

I do like how Octopus push the boundries and offer all these incentives. Can't see BG or such like doing similar.

Definitely showing others how they can do things and the fast they are number 1 now for customers should be making the others stand up and take note.

BG were only the biggest supplier because of the way privatisation was done. They were essentially gifted the people with a gas supply but who did nothing. They are still in the twentieth century and I don't think there new billing system is going to bring them into the modern age.

    Ok, I'll bite.

As far as I've noticed, nobody has ever said "we hate Octopus because they make profit".  They don't make much more profit on retail than anyone else does, just manage to make a decent chunk through licencing of software as well.  All good, that's what companies are there for.

We've just pointed out that saying "aren't Octopus so lovely, running at a loss just so they can be nice to me" is a little 'odd', particularly without anything to back it up beyond a PR tweet.

Anything they can do to get people used to flexibility in usage is great as far as I'm concerned, but they aren't doing it because of unicorns and rainbows.

Completely.  They're entirely running on legacy and inertia at this point.

Not least trading on the "British" part of their name for many decades as well. A name households trusted.

Now they trust a Pink Octopus.

I must admit the funny extras are welcome as well, the free coffee each week, we got a sausage roll on the snaps thing me bob. The dog is always given a free puppachino as well in Nero.

And it does make me chuckle that the smart meter naysayers get none of that.

Do you think their returns to Companies House were falsified as well?

I don't think anything was falsified.

As we are both aware, financial statements don't break down profit margin by specific customer, tariff or day

And of course other suppliers also made a loss, so suggesting that it was a choice on behalf of Octopus so they could have a special tariff for special people seems a little silly.

Octopus do some great innovations, but they are a business after all.  The starry eyed fan thing is a little odd to me.  I think the same thing about the Musk super fans.

It's all a conspiracy to some people. I tried explaining that the very earliest tracker product, that we were on, was loss making and it just bought them put on mass on how bad energy suppliers were, they all lie, all profiteering etc etc.

No recognition for what Octopus did to majorly shake up the market in a very unique way, a costly one at the start(as per their books) but now reaping the rewards.

Super fan, maybe in some areas, not for how they are designing heat pumps. But a fan none the less as we have conservatively saved over £4000 from being with Octopus over the years.

I wish everyone could have saved what we did, and more over the years.

I love that bit so must be just doing a calculation on a given extra 7kWh extra usage,

Now all I need to do is figure out to just get car to charge 23:30 to 05:30 instead of starting as soon as plugged in which is the norm for me on IO 🤷‍♀️1st world problems 🤣
