i split with my ex about 5 months ago we lived together and he ran alot of debt up in my name ( including getting a virgin credit card in my name without me even speaking to them)
we had bt fusion business line with a mobile on it aswell he managed to run up a £494.86 bill on it he keeps saying he will pay it but i keep getting letters from bt demanding the money i dont have a spare £500 to pay it also they have cut my phone line off ( great)
is there any way i could ring bt and explain the situation?
as far as i know he has spoken to them about the bill and about paying it but hasnt got any further.
all advise is welcome
thanks x

Not much really as you allowed him to take credit out in your name (of course if he did it without your knowledge that is fraud and and a whole different scenario). I'd be a bit doubtful that he has actually spoken to BT though-most companies won't discuss repayments with anyone except the account holder due to data protection-unless you made a special arrangement for him to do so.
Personally I'd talk to BT direct and make a repayment arrangement with them if it is in your name and then push HIM to repay without saying you've sorted it. If he pays it you simply stop paying the negociated amount as it will be clear and BT will refund any over-payment but until something is sorted the account will still be racking up penalty charges which YOU will be liable for and it's your credit rating taking a hit-so you need to be a bit assertive with him. Call BT and find out what is recorded on the account about repaying and then decide the best next step. If you've got to the point they've cut you off then it debt is overdue enough you need to be talking to them about at least paying something each month-morally it may not be your debt but legally it is so you need to stop it damaging your credit any more than it already has.
And good luck !I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
