PayPal Credit, Credit Limit Increase

Options
Hi

I applied to join PayPal Credit and was accepted but with what I thought was a very low credit limit... my limit is about a 10th of what I had been offered on a previous credit card application.

I thought the limit would go up soon and this was just the initial offering... it has never gone up.

I like using PayPal Credit as it offers a 3/4 month period of 0% interest on applicable transactions.  I don't like to leave things unpaid for much longer than this. I know there are alternative like Klarna but Paypal Credit seems to be more universal.

I have an excellent credit score according to Credit Karma, ClearScore and MSE Credit Club.

I currently have 3 credit cards, all of which have a much higher credit limit than I have with PayPal.  I only have 3 cards as the above apps/systems advised that my score would potentially increase if I took out further credit.

I have asked PayPal to increase my credit limit and they say it can't be done i.e. there is no facility to increase someone's credit limit manually. Only the system can offer a credit limit increase!!!!!

So I have asked PayPal why was the limit so low in the first place....they don't know.   I have also asked if they can check my account to ensure that my buying/selling patterns  are such that I am likely to be offered an increase.. they don't know how to do that.

What I get back from PayPal is an explanation of how the process works i.e. the system reviews your account periodically and then it decides if you should be offered an increase and you can then choose to accept it or not.

I have asked them to escalate this issue and they won't.

They have now closed the chat on the basis that they have answered the query...  I obviously don't agree with them.

Any any thoughts/help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Mark

  • I would say that PayPal have answered your query, you just don't like the answer given.

If PayPal wish to have a limit increase system run entirely by a computer that is their prerogative. They also don't need to justify why they give the limits that they do.

If it were me I'd accept what I'd been told and make a decision as to whether this facility is useful to me. If it is not, I'd drop it.

Okay, thank you... I just wanted some feedback and to see if other people were having a similar problems.   As you say, Paypal can run their business whichever way they like and they don't have to justify it to me,  I don't believe they have answered my question but maybe its time to move on.   In future I won't automatically use Paypal.... I shall be looking at what alternative credit is available at the time of purchase.
