Who can witness the signing of a TR1 form?

Can we ask our solicitor (or someone in their office) to be our witness for this form? The form doesn't specify anything about the witness - solicitor has said they need to be independent (not related to us and not sharing the same surname). Are they independent, even if they are acting on our behalf? Otherwise, we will have to wait until next week and would prefer to get it done and returned to them this week.
I will call them tomorrow when their offices open, but just thought I would ask here first.

Yes, the solicitor is sufficiently independent. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1 -

You can ask the postman, the doctor, a friend, neighbour etc. I got mine witnessed by my partners sister as we're not legally related.1

Just for anyone else wanting to know the same thing, we popped into the solicitors and the receptionist witnessed our signatures. Job done!0
