The BBC program 'Sliced bread' looked into this earlier in the year.

..I have always maintained that if we had the room I would operate 2 dishwashers.....it would save the need to unload, and you need less cupboard space for crocks etc....

Also (currently) on my own. Washing up is always done with a kettle of boiling water. If I were to use the combi, it would need to heat up the water inside the boiler, fill a long run of pipe, then waste all that heat as the system cools down - Boiler contains ~7l of water, and the pipework, another 2-2.5l. I only use 2-3l of water for washing up, so a significant waste if using the hot tap.Swipe said:I live alone and boil a third of a kettle to do washing up in a bowl (just a few plates and a couple of cups) every other day. I find it easier than loading and unloading the tabletop dishwasher. I use my dishwasher once every couple of weeks just to keep the pump active and to get a good deep clean on everything.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

On the basis they already have both it's not a necessary step but would be if you were considering "investing" in a dishwasher.p00hsticks said:
If we're really going all in with the calculations, we should perhaps be factoring in the cost of a dishwasher compared withe that of a washing up bowl and set of dishclothes!DullGreyGuy said:The above also doesn't consider the cost of the soap but again that comes down to if you are buying a budget dishwasher tablet at a few pence each or getting small packs of premium ones delivered from your local convenience store at 35p a tablet.
Personally bought one for convenience rather than cost saving, if running is not significantly more then its a one off additional cost.2 -

Seems to be ok. Only been using for a week. I only do a couple of loads each week. Mine is a table top model and the pods are just too much detergent. So for the last couple of washes it seems to seems ok. I have seen on youtube videos that say powder is better than pods this is a long one at 48 mins. but he explains all of it
