Plymouth Ferry Port passenger terminal parking

I may be jumping the gun here, but I am losing sleep having parked at the ferryport in Plymouth (I am sure for less than the free 30 mins allowed) and been trying - and failing - to check what I ought to have done to get the free 30 minutes. I have read threads about others parking in different parts of the port, but not outside the terminal building.
In the past, I have just got a free ticket from the machine, but the arrangements have changed. Now the car park is monitored by the infamous Parkingeye and there are signs up, but I saw that parking was free for 30 minutes. I tried to connect and download the app to double check what I needed to do, but couldn't get it to work, so I went into the ferryport and asked at the Brittany Ferries desk.
To cut a long story short, they said that I didn't have to do anything if I wasn't parking for more than 30 minutes, but if I couldn't pay by phone for longer there was a terminal behind me that I could use. I couldn't get this to work either.
I have tried to find the information I need, but I have failed. I regret not giving the terminal another go and not going back to read the notice in the car park properly, but it's too late now - and too far to return to Plymouth.
Does anyone know what I ought to have done? Did I have to register the car number plate? Did I have to "buy" free parking? Any info to help put my mind at rest would be great!
Thank you.

Good grief why are you losing sleep over a parking event that might not even come to anything? The port is owned by Associated British Ports and will no doubt come under Bye-laws which the dingweeds at Parking Eye cannot progress beyond threats anyway. But you need to calm down, relax and see what happens, if you get a NTK in the post then come back here, don't jump the gun, and read through the newbies thread you'll be asleep before you know it2

Nobody should be losing sleep over a possible private parking infringement ! Its only money at stake, no Biggie
No keeper liability on port land where bylaws apply, so no blabbing about who was driving
You should definitely be taking pictures of signs in future, signs form the contract
The first 30 minutes may be free, but its probably pay for parking if staying longer
Come back to this thread if a postal PCN arrives, but definitely have a good sleep !3 -
If you get a PCN, dp not appeal as driver telling the story of what happened! You have a 100% win at POPLA by NOT saying who was drivingPRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

OK, thanks so far. I'll try not to lose sleep, but I do suffer from anxiety problems, which certainly doesn't help (and for which I am getting support...) so thank you for reassurance.Yes, definitely 30 minutes free, but some confusion on my part about whether "the driver" needs to register on the site/app to get the free parking or if "they" can just turn up, park and leave.I've already looked at the threads, but my case is slightly different. I'll certainly let you know if anything turns up in the post.1

Your case is NO different2

The signs are what is needed to see all the terms and conditions, but you don't have any pictures, so although we could probably tell you the score if we saw them, we cannot explain what was needed or when, without seeing the contract in clear detail, meaning the signs themselves, signs form contracts, by conduct2

For what it's worth at the moment, this poster won their appeal with POPLA against PE on the not relevant land argument at the same site:

And none of the above goes into the appeal.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thank you everyone. I'll update if/when something happens, or after two weeks if I don't hear anything at all.2

A quick update; it's getting on for four weeks since I parked and I have heard nothing whatsoever. I believe that, unless DVLA are particularly remiss in supplying information, notice has to be given to the vehicle's keeper within 2 weeks. That hasn't arrived, so, probably all good...!
