Heathrow APCOA - paid 24 ours after deadline, still got a fine

Hi,
I read the newbies thread, but still have a questions.
I received a fine for not paying the £5 drop off fee when dropping parents off at Heathrow T5.
I was unaware there is now a charge involved and did not notice any signage to it.
A couple days later a friend informed me I need to pay the £5 charge, so I went online and made the payment.
However I missed the deadline by one day, so could not make a payment for the specified day I travelled, as that option was grey'd out.
So I chose the following day as my day of travel and noticed that day was not grey'd out, so I made the payment.
Needless to say a week later I received a fine as I missed the 24 hour window.
My questions are - should I try appeal on the grounds I made the payment, but 24 hours after I missed the deadline (and before I received a fine).
Or should I appeal according to the advise given in the newbie thread
Thanks

It is not a fine.
Appeal using the template in blue text from the sticky Announcement for NEWBIES. Send it unaltered from the keeper, except add that: -
1) Payment was made
2) The site is not relevant land because airport byelaws apply, therefore the keeper cannot liable as detailed in Schedule 4 of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Consequently CRAPCOA should cancel now to save themselves money and the embarrassment of losing at PoPLA.
If it is rejected, come back and read the third post of the NEWBIES on how to produce a winning PoPLA appeal.
Do not under any circumstances give away the driver's identity.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister.

Or why not just use the bespoke appeal in the Heathrow Airport Drop off group thread?PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
