I live alone at 76 years of age and the cost of living has hit hard, I get a pension and savings credit, and I have help with my rent and council tax will I qualify for the winter heating allowance? Thanks

It appears that the Savings Credit element of Pension Credit does qualify for Winter Heating Allowance and also a Free TV licence (over 75 which you need to apply for) https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one/for-your-home/aged-74-and-over-aud3?WT.ac=reducedfee_over75 . The rules state "Pension Credit" and make no reference to Savings Credit or Guarantee Credit elements.
  • Re: Poppy12345. There is a VERY LONG wait for Pension Credit applications !!!!!
Mine has been in since beginning of August and I found out today that they hadn’t even looked at it yet !
    Good luck to everybody!
  • I applied for PC last week of July (14weeks ago). I phone every week, been told alsorts of rubbish by them. I’ve put in an official complaint about being given wrong information.
I’m so anxious as I need to use my heating due to health conditions. My bills are around £480 a month in winter. I’m really scared at the moment. I do get PIP SP. That’s it

There's extremely long delays with Pension Credit claims so you may not hear anything from that for quite sometime, this will delays your payments from them too.

Your state pension should is paid 4 weeks in arrears so first payment will be about 4 weeks after you reach state pension age.

If there's entitlement to Pension Credit then you'll receive full HB and CTR.
I applied for PC in July 2023 and heard from them in August 2024.
When you say "heard"  does that mean claim processed  or just getting back to you?
They phoned me up for some more information then about a week later I got 13 months of PC in my bank account.

When you got your 13 months of PC did you also get 13 months of Housing benefit as well?
