Maybe hope for some decent savings rates to be launched?

I thought this was interesting. Not holding my breath but I did enjoy the crazy days of last summer where the interest rates and deals were changing every day!

Someone needs to tell the savings institutions! BoE base rate cut on 1 August currently being felt across the board, no sign yet of anyone desperate to buck the trend.

Presumably they'll leave it to the last minute to raise the money.

RSs at £250 pcm aren't going to raise the sums mentioned in the article. The VM RS is a (most welcome) outlier but EA and fixed term bond rates are falling as indeed are RS rates generally.

But it's a regular saver that bucks the trend😏
  • There will always be some regular savers being launched well above the base rate, so I'm sure there will be more of those to come at least (I remember when the First Direct 7% one got bumped up towards the end of 2022, which if I remember correctly, was more than double what the base rate was at the time).

Recently more was repaid one month on existing mortgages than new borrowing advances. Financial institutions sometimes aren't in need of new deposits from savers.

No one has told Halifax, got notification that their very generous 1.45% on Everyday Saver (that they opened when I opened a RS) has reduced to 1.30%. It will remain at £0.

We could see more bond offers, or fixed rate terms improving, that way the banks don't have to worry about any short term deposits suddenly going elsewhere.
