Has the price sky rocketed this year? End terrace house modest area and belongings, comparison sites quoting £400+ sure it wasn't this much last year!

    If you live in a place that's likely to get flooded in the near future, then house insurance will be expensive.  If the crime rate in your area has gone up, this would increase the price of house insurance.  My home contents insurance, with my existing insurer, went down this year by about 5%

    Your renewal notice will remind you what you paid last year. 

    But generally yes, Home insurers made another substantial underwriting loss last year, mainly due to weather related losses, and so premiums are generally up
