Travelling to Egypt for surgery

I am travelling to Egypt for a tummy tuck and arm lift in October. Looking for advice on travel insurance and what cover it should contain.
Thank you

Having read and heard some of the horror stories about botched medical procedures abroad I wonder if travel insurance companies will offer relevant cover other than normal policy cover ?I tried this on Google - travel insurance for elective surgery abroad - it provided several hits.

When looking for specialist policies, in fact when looking at any policy, it's essential to read the T&C thoroughly. What is covered will vary from policy to policy.

There are specific policies for medical tourism (albeit not something I would recommend to anyone). But anyone thinking of doing this should ensure that they have adequate insurance to cover any UK complications that may follow the surgery, as the NHS is not obliged to provide any follow up care, and generally will not. They will provide emergency treatment where health or life is at risk, but anything else that goes wrong is on the individual. Nobody should assume that the NHS is free because they live in the UK - there are conditions where it is not, and medical travel aftercare and many complications are not included!NoodleDoodleMan said:Having read and heard some of the horror stories about botched medical procedures abroad I wonder if travel insurance companies will offer relevant cover other than normal policy cover ?I tried this on Google - travel insurance for elective surgery abroad - it provided several hits.0 -
Good point. The whole elective surgery scenario is fraught with dangers, including procedures carried out in the UK.The tragic case of the wife of a well known footballer comes to mind.0

When it goes wrong you need an insurance policy so that our NHS does not have to pick up the bill. You should ensure you can pay for private health care to fix any botching.0

A couple of years ago I travelled abroad for dental treatment.
After an exhaustive search I could not find any suitable travel insurance. When I read the small print, I found that ALL the policies I examined excluded trips that were made primarily to obtain medical care.
