joint dmps can be done by step change if you both have debts, including joint debts.
but you're self employed so it may not be possible as stepchange is for employees, they say contact stepchange business helpline

do HMRC and car at same time, don't worry about your consumer debts for a while unless they hit you with a letter before action
stop spending on kids , they don't need luxuries
self employed income you will have to give an average wage you make from itChristians Against Poverty solved my debt problem, when all other debt charities failed. Give them a call !! ( You don't have to be a Christian ! )

I just did some calculations, I can pay HMRC in 10 months if I do this, so should be clear by June then I can work on the next tax year, which will be less and I'll have paid off my car. Gonna sleep well tonight you absolute superstars!Debt owed

My average last year was 1250 a month gross, I've been relentless with it, but I'm aiming for 500-750 average this year, that's my sweet spot of it being worth it. Any more and I have to give child benefit back and loads of student loan it's not worth all the extra hours. Really should have learned that in advance of racking up so much last year. I'll put that in my stepchange budget and I'll also look into a self managed dmp too, I might be back with more Qs about that if I get stuck.Debt owed

Forget Stepchange budget for now, like I said stop paying them and concentrate on HMRC.
Also get a SOA together, an honest one using last 3 months bank statements and look through it yourself first to see if you can find ways to cut back, as Stu said don't spend a fortune on the children the sooner they learn money doesn't grow on trees the better. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0 -
Social norms like that are so hard for me, like I am happy saying no I just don't understand when I'm supposed to say it. All the time from now on! My husband doesn't help, totally clueless as to our outgoings and earns minimum wage, so I've done stuff like ask to not have a joint account any more and he gives me a set amount every month, now my earnings are right up there, he doesn't get to see and spend them any more! Never earned this much before so I've never had to manage at this scale before, all a big steep learning curve for me.Debt owed

If I come off stepchange, to all the creditors, would I just tell them I have a tax debt so I'll contact you when it's clear, or would I give them my full SOA with details of the tax debt in there?Debt owed

You don't need to tell your creditors anything it take months before they realize you are not paying Stepchange and hopefully you will have something sorted by then.If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0
