Does anyone know?

Options
A person over the road from me rents a 3 bed house from the local council. He was put in HMP for drug dealing when he was caught in a police raid (not the first time and not talking a bit of weed. They found heroin, coke and pills). He's out now but he's no longer living at this house. His girlfriend and 2 children lived there until about 18 months ago, she left him to go back to her parents (he was abusive).

Does anyone know the process for reporting this to the council? would i have to leave my details? Due to his background i wouldn't want to leave my name or address. I know for sure he's not living there, he comes back every week or so to pick up his post then bogs off again. It just seems a waste when the waiting lists are so long and he's obviously got somewhere else to stay. Thanks

why not just call the housing department and tell them what you have posted, without giving your name ....

Who is living in the house? Is he sub-letting it?

You need to ring the housing department and speak to the housing officer that covers your area. You don't need to give your details, but it will make it easier for the housing office if you do. Ultimately, they may need to go to court to get a possession order on the grounds of ASB, sub-letting etc etc and will need to be able to provide lots of evidence before the court will grant an order.

Once you've got a council house, if you're paying the rent that's all they're bothered about unless you are sub-letting it. So it's unlikely to be of interest to them I'd guess.

Maybe he's working away at the moment.

So you're probably stuck with it.

Just write an anonymous letter if you're concerned. The council will check it out.

If he gets housing benefit then they will soon be round!

  • He isn't living there or sub letting, the house is completely empty. He doesn't work and gets benefits (although if you count drug dealing he's doing pretty well for himself, he drives up in a brand new BMW). It's no bother to me really, it just irks me that he has it when he has somewhere else to go, there's plenty of families in need of housing. Thanks for your replies, i'll ring the housing department.
