Help! Eon Next have retrospectively changed my tariff
Hi MSEers! A bit of a long one, but I’ve signed up to the forums today because I need some help and can’t find anything anywhere.
In short terms, Eon Next have retrospectively changed a tariff I had with them at a previous property.
The details - Just over two months ago, I moved from a property where we payed for electricity only with direct debit, to one with a pay as you go meter. At the old property, we switched to Eon Next from another supplier on October 2021 on their Next Flex tariff. On 2nd July 2022, we switched to another tariff, and a smart meter as installed on 1st August 2022.
I’ve now tried to cancel the direct debit, only to be told that instead of being the £105 on credit that was listed online, I am still in debt for £240. When I looked further, the tariff I signed up for in July that year had been retrospectively applied to the entire time since moving in.
This is outright wrong - indeed, the new tariff even has June 2022 in the title, so it’s really obvious that it wasn’t available on 2021. However, they now want to charge us for the whole period. After raising a complaint, the best we could be offered was a £75 voucher, but the debt not corrected.
What makes it worse is that the actual bills from the time are still on the website. With the correct tariff.
Has anyone seen anything like this before? If Eon Next don’t change the bills back, does anyone know what we can do next?

Eon Next have their own forum with moderators who can get the Eon team to help.
It might be worth you signing up there aswell.
If you have accepted the £75 then that's it but if not ask for a deadlock letter and raise your case with the ombudsman service.
Have you worked out exactly how much you are worse off?1 -
Oh, I absolutely didn’t accept it.
I’ve checked properly just now. I was £105.50 in credit. I have paid another £67.79 since then, and am now £203.94 in debt. So basically, add all of that up… £377.25.
The ombudsman service sounds like the type of thing I mean for a next step. Though I can’t find the Eon Next forum - could someone link please?0 -
I’ve added that up wrong. But only by 2p. (£377.23)0
