Dimmer switches

So we have LED spotlights in the ceiling and I need some 2 way dimmer switches for them.  I see they are priced from £8 to £39. Are the cheaper ones OK, will they cause flicker at low brightness any recomendations welcome.

LED and dimmer switches are a real minefield.  I only buy dimmer switches that claim to support LED lights but even that is not certain to ensure they will work.

As above, you are likely to find the combination of LEDs and external dimmer to be disappointing.

A modern alternative would be to replace the LED bulbs with smart bulbs, such as these gu10 smart bulbs from Toolstation at a fiver each.

You won't need any wiring changes or multiway dimmer switches.

We've got several varilight dimmers, and the house is full of Screwfix LAP bulbs.  No issues for the last 8 years.

Are your current LED bulbs marked as "dimmable", if not that could cause further problems.

Originally I had one of the  cheaper LED dimmer running 6 bulbs,  it dimmed them ok with no flickering, but the LEDs didn't come on at all until the knobs was at about 35%, which limited the range of control and also meant you could turn lights down but them still be 'on' ( but no light ) if you get my gist

Replaced it with a Varilight V-Pro one which allows to program the minimum brightness which fixed the issue - programming was a tad fiddley, took a few attempts to get it right
