Scottish Power Uniflo G4SZV-2 smart gas meter is acting strangely.
The gas meter talks to a comms hub mounted in majority of cases on top of the electric meter over it's home area network (HAN).
That comms hub then talks to the ihd on the same home area network (HAN) - and also talks to suppliers via a second wide area network (WAN) via the DCC network these days.
If the 2 meters are too far apart - and / or separated by doors and walls - the default spec HAN wireless connection can fail to communicate.
Other people I know as well as from posts here seem to experience problems with smart gas but electric ok - your mum isnt alone.
AFAIK there is nothing your mother can really be asked to do.
The supplier might be able to attempt a soft reboot of comms hub over the network, to see if that picks up gas meter han link - but a hard reboot would need an engineers visit.
