Notice of Intended Prosecution just before renewal

Hi
I'm not looking for any sympathy or loop holes to get out of things, but just really not sure on what I have to do.
My insurance is up for renewal, I ideally want to renew over the next day or two for optimal price (~20 days before renewal), yesterday I received a "Notice of Intended Prosecution" (NIP) for doing 56 in a 50 zone. Totally my own fault.
I did a speed awareness course about 2 years ago so I know this will now been a fine and points (I'm guessing 3 points and £100).
The question is do I have to declare an NIP when getting quotes, and if so how most sites dont list this as an option. It dosent feel right listing it as a driving conviction yet as I dont know the end outcome so can't answer those questions (although I'm 99% sure of what the answers will be).
If I dont mention it to the insurer now, do I then need to contact them once the outcome is known, but then I would be declaring a "new" offence that occurred before the policy started so would they potentially cancel the policy for doing that

Do you have to declare? Possibly, depends on what question is asked.
BTW are you sure it is 56 in 50, because that is below the normal threshold for prosecution (10% + 2), i.e. 57?0 -
Police historically have operated a buffer. Though technically anything above the speed limit is speeding. Enforcement is certainly becoming stricter. Accuracy of the devices used being a factor.TadleyBaggie said:

The threshold is not law, it is guidance and is at the discretion of the Police.TadleyBaggie said:Do you have to declare? Possibly, depends on what question is asked.

Even if the question is not asked directly at renewal it will still have to be declared as soon as the points are given. This happened to my son when he declared the points 2 months after his renewal and he incurred an extra admin fee.

I'm aware of that, however for all the time I have been on Pepipoo and FTLA (20 years or so) not one single claimed prosecution below the threshold has ever shown to be actually true.swingaloo said:

A lot has changed over 20 years. The cameras used on the Motorway bridges now see you before you see them. Such is the range.TadleyBaggie said:

Yes. The notice states the speed as 56 and says limit was 50. I was a bit surprised as thought there was a general 10% plus 1mph margin, but obviously not in this case. Was on an average speed section so don't know if that makes any difference swingaloo said:TadleyBaggie said:

Thanks. Do you know if it was just an admin fee he had to pay or did they also increase the premium for the rest of the year.

Trying to work out of it is better to just say I got 3 points now to find the cheapest rather than say nothing and then to then massively increase the price in a month when I notify them0 -
Back on topic, you have to answer the question they ask honestly.
If the question is have you had any motoring convictions in the last X years, then you can answer no. If it asks for pending then you would have to answer yes, but that is not normally the question.
At this stage you have not been convicted of any offence,
Obviously if in the future it does turn into a conviction you need to follow the policies requirement about informing them. Some want to know immediately, some at renewal. It is the date of conviction they want to know about in terms of when you should have reported it, not the date of the offence for that purpose.1 -
He had his premiums raised for the rest of the year which he expected. Because he had just renewed and was making an alteration to the policy he had to pay the admin fee. However I think he said the admin fee was around £20 so it was still cheaper than than declaring it before he needed to as his premiums went up almost £35 a month. He had not received the Notice of intended prosecution before his renewal though.discount_camels_666 said:

My sons was also on an average speed section on the motorway and was 56 in a 50. We thought it may be because he had already had a speed awareness course in the last 3 years that they were perhaps being stricter. The joys of being a delivery driver on timed deliveries!0 -
Ultimately you need to answer the question as presented, that said if you look at Confused.com they simply ask about convictions so you should be able to answer "no" as you've not yet been convicted but if you do select "yes" for !!!!!! and giggles you'll see it says for prosecution pending enter the date of the offence rather than conviction and rather than selecting a code there is an option for prosecution pending.discount_camels_666 said:Hi

Most normally ask about convictions or convictions pending and then have similar options below but if thats how the question is worded you'd have to say yes.0
