Advice for renting if temporarily unemployed

Me and my partner are looking to rent together in another part of the country, in a new city further away. I work from home earning a good, consistent amount, but my partner has handed in their resignation from their job; in a month's time, they will count as unemployed and technically not have any income to show.
My partner has a job lined up for them in the new city already (but has not signed any kind of contract). Obviously, they cannot start the job there until after we move to the new city. We want to move there as soon as we find a place, but if we haven't found anything then we will have to say that they're currently unemployed, putting us in a worse position.
Aside from my partner getting a new, temporary job where we are right now, what other options do we have to improve our chances of securing a property to rent?
Personally, my pay can cover the rent and bills, taking a total of about 65% of my pay, but I'm not sure if that's enough to carry both of us through the competition.

Go into an AirB&B for a few weeks until your partner's job is confirmed. Lots of potential renters do this

Presumably your partner has something in writing giving details of the new job and pay. Use that.

there is no easy solution as each landlord or agency will have their own criteria for credit worthiness checking

I presume you do not have the money on hand to offer a lump sum rental payment in advance?

Even if partner can produce a signed contract for the new job, a tough credit check may reject you on the fact you would still be in a probationary period for the new job anyway.

Can partner not sign the new job contract, with a forward start date, say a month or two forward? Some employers will even allow the date to be left TBC, within a certain range.

Then show that contract for any referencing checks. If it was me checking, then a confirmed job at salary £x plus a few past payslips in the last 6 months showing a similar ish salary would demonstrate that its a steady income.
If as a worst case you can't find a property by the time the new job starts, you could move into temporary accommodation, but if you're willing to pay market rents, it should be an unlikely last resort.

I’m with FlorayG on this. Whenever I’ve moved to a new city for work I stay in short-term accommodation and then secure longer term accommodation once I’m living and working in the area. It’s much easier to do viewings when you’re already in the area and you get more of a feel for the place.

Is there a reason why your partner handed in their resignation without signing the other contract first and agreeing a start date? Is the notice very long and he risks losing the new job?

You shouldn't move anywhere without the contract signed. He can sign the contract and start in a month or two. One of my jobs I got on April 18th and started July 24th! It's usually negotiable.
