I own a large property which my husband and I bought to redevelop into flats to sell on. He is now out of the picture but I wish to continue living in the house.
My problem is that it has nine bedrooms, and online insurers don't touch anything larger than 5 bedrooms. Annoyingly, they let you get all the way through the quote before they tell you this, despite the fact that it's one of the first questions they ask.
I have tried 2 brokers. One never came back to me and the other reckons the only quote they can get is from Aviva, giving me no choice other than take it or leave it.
Does anyone have any advice for me please?

What sort of values are you talking about for rebuild, total contents (inc valuables/jewellery etc) and valuables (jewellery, art, prescious metals etc)?

Depending on the answer to the above you may be in the space of high net worth insurance which will almost exclusively be sold off line. You may fit into some of the higher tier standard insurers like NFU Mutual or there are more niche intermediaries like HomeProtect that will quote for up to 9 beds online

I had a similar issue and had to go through Hiscox. They ARE NOT cheap, but the service is excellent.

Depending on the value of the contents I would say you're likely to pay about £800-£1,000 a month

Hiscox Direct policy will be a lot less than £1,000 a month... their full broker only 606 home insurance could easily get up to £1k a month or more but is aimed at the 0.05% of the population by wealth. For example you only need to tell them if your contents goes up by more than £100,000 in a policy year or if you buy a single piece of jewellery or work of art over £50,000
