Carers allowance and paying into pension directly.

Can someone who is doing this let me know the process please.
Rather than have the money taken from my salary directly, I will be making contributions into my own pension scheme to stay under the carers threshold.
I understand I need to record the payments and show statements, but how often do I need to do this and how frequently is the claim put on hold while they recheck this?
