DVD upscaling to high definition via XBOX360

I have just bought a HD-DVD drive for my XBOX360, which I have been led to believe upscales normal DVDs to high definition? I must admit I have played some normal DVDs on it and they do appear clearer.
My question is this...(If anybody is able to help) if the drive upscales normal DVDs is there any point in paying extra for specific HD-DVDs (Other than for more room on the disc and potentially more extras). Sorry if this appears a really stupid question but I cant seem to get an answer on this one.
BTW - I have the XBOX connected to my TV via VGA cable and the 32" TV is running in 720P (If this helps)
Thanks and regards, Andy

Some Notes to consider:
The Upscaling Process
Upscaling is a process that mathematically matches the pixel count of the output of the DVD signal to the physical pixel count on an HDTV, which is typically 1280x720 (720p) or 1920x1080 (1080i). It does not however, increase the physical quality of the DVD stream.
The Practical Effect Of DVD Upscaling
Visually, there is very little difference to the eye of the average consumer between 720p and 1080i. However, 720p can deliver a slightly smoother-looking image, due to the fact that lines and pixels are displayed in a consecutive pattern, rather than in an alternate pattern.
The upscaling process does a good job of matching the upscaled pixel output of a DVD player to the native pixel display resolution of an HDTV capable television, resulting in better detail and color consistency.
Why buy HD-DVD's?
Upscaling, as it is currently implemented, cannot convert standard DVD images into true high-definition images. In fact, although upscaling works well with fixed pixel displays, such as Plasma and LCD televisions, results are not always consistent on CRT-based high definition televisions. Therefore the only way to get true HD is to buy HD-DVDs.:rotfl: :j :T :bdaycake: :xmastree: :bdaycake: :T :j :rotfl:0 -
Many thanks frestuffwooo. I appreciate your response. Kind regards, Andy.:TBeware the green bear on a bicycle :eek:0
