Personal Injury claim.

My wife had an accident in June 2023 which resulted in a longish hospital stay. Once she was back home we contacted the legal assistance department of our home insurance in late July 2023. Despite completing all the required forms, progress has been glacially slow, to the extent that witness statements have only just been requested - 14 months after the event. It's no great surprise to discover that a number of witnesses no longer have totally clear recollection of the sequence of events.
Our concern is that this (excessive?) delay may affect the outcome of the claim. Were that to be the situation, would that potentially be grounds to take it to the Legal Ombudsman? Very much hoping there will be no reason to even actively consider that route.
Your thoughts on the situation would be appreciated.

Assuming the insurer confirmed cover and appointed a law firm in reasonable timeframes and its the solicitors that are too slow then you'd need to follow their complaint process before going to the Legal Ombudsman. Normally it means raising the complaint with the relevant partner they then have up to 8 weeks to respond or you can escalate at 8 weeks if there has been no final response.0

Wait to see what the outcome is before worrying about this.1
