Co-op Energy

Hello
I was helping a friend today look at their energy prices and usage. They were a co-op energy customer which is now managed by Octopus.

She would be better off on the Octopus Flexible tariff but they have advised her that she can only have one of the co-op tariffs - is this correct? Is there any way other than switching out and back in to get the octopus standard tariffs?

How were they advised, by phone or email?

I would be tempted to contact Octopus again, perhaps email hello@octopus.energy and request a switch of tariff to Octopus Flexible (i.e. don't ask if they can switch, just instruct Octopus to switch). Not uncommon to get a different response from a different person in many organisations these days.
  • Via email, and it was a really basic email asking to switch to that tariff. I’m with octopus myself and yeah I know their responses can be mixed!

According to Octopus Compare Co-op Flexible is the same cost as Octopus Flexible so there appears to be no disadvantage to being restricted to moving to Co-op Flexible.

Thank you! You’re quite correct, she is currently on Co-op flexible but the rates are higher so it must be an older edition of that tariff but I can see the current is the same as the Octopus flexible. I’ll get her to contact again to query this and see if we can get her on the latest rates
