What about any other issues with the tenants or next ones the neighbours has?0

Just a minor point: I know of people who have never partaken in marijuana who are familiar with the smell of it. It only takes a couple of times of being told what that smell is...LinLui said:Not sure what the "other" issues are. But I'd ask the neighbours how they know the smell of cannabis. It's the sort of thing that they might only know if they've enjoyed it?3 -
And that would include me! But you'd still need to smoke an awful lot of it to be overpowering outside in several neighbours gardens!RHemmings said:

Yes. Who knows how much the person two doors down from me is smoking. I can't smell it but my neighbours definitely can.LinLui said:

I got the impression from the OP that the complaints have come directly from the affected neighbours. Indirect gossip from others would be hearsay.Grumpy_chap said:
All this is hearsaygazfocus said:We rent a house to a family with a young child (about 2yrs old) and we’ve become aware from neighbours on the estate that the tenants ‘may’ be smoking cannabis in the garden which is causing the neighbours to be unable to use their gardens due to the smell. We’ve also been made aware of other issues with the tenants that could affect the neighbours.Obviously we don’t know if this is true but we’ve been approached by multiple people now so feel we need to do something.
The trouble is, the tenants have always paid rent on time every month so I’m reluctant to do anything that could jeopardise that but I have to think of our neighbours that are being affected.
What would you do in this situation?0 -
Who would the neighbours complain to if the property was owner-occupied rather than tenanted?user1977 said:I got the impression from the OP that the complaints have come directly from the affected neighbours. Indirect gossip from others would be hearsay.
This seems like a neighbour issue, not a LL issue.
The OP's concern is whether the T is doing anything that is detrimental to the property.0 -
When my neoghbour smokes a cigarette in her garden I have to come indoors.
As a non smoker I cannot stand the smell of cigarette smoke nor do I want to inhale it.
When I am indoors, If my back door or windows are open I can tell when she lights up.0 -
I don’t like the smell of smoking, cigarettes or other substances, but unless the tenant is outside chain smoking reefers for hours on end I can’t see that the neighbours’ gardens are permanently out of use due to the smell. I’m curious about the other issues the neighbours have complained about. Are we talking about the tenant parking on the street outside a neighbour’s house, the sound of a 2 year old playing outside in the garden or pounding techno music at 3am? If it’s just the odd whiff of smoke and normal household noise then I wouldn’t do anything with regards to the tenant and would tell the neighbours that any antisocial behaviour should be reported to the council who will do naff all if the neighbours aren’t complaining about anything serious.0
