MrsStepford said:Husband has COPD and his consultant has started the process to revoke husband's driving licence. From tomorrow he will commute to Surrey three days per week by train.
There are two Co-op stores near his office and another near the station here. We used to live in a village near Ashford which had a Co-op stuffed to the ceiling with great stuff. That was a few moons ago though.
Any good deals now or good stuff to look out for ?

Rarely use my local co -op as it's far more expensive than other supermarkets.
Could you ask a friend or neighbour if they could accept a home delivery?
Or have one late in the evening when possibly delivery charges are cheaper?Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)1 -
A few weeks ago husband drove to chippy to get gluten-free fish & chips. He didn't take his inhaler. He parked up and a busybody further down the hill wasn't impressed by his tired parking so told police he was drunk. They may have been in the area as they arrived as he was walking up front path. They breathalysed him though he wasn't in charge of the parked locked car and wasn't on a public highway or footpath. Husband doesn't drink.
His result was weird so they arrested him for drink driving. He was breathalysed again at the police station and put in a cell without his inhaler. Some hours later he was feeling pretty ill. He had explained that he has COPD. Someone called the on call doctor. He looked at husband and breathalyser results and yelled at them to take him to hospital so they hared up the motorway with blue lights on.
Consultant took blood, told police zero alcohol but blood oxygen very low. He spent more than 12 hours on a nebulizer thingy.
So although some test results have improved since diagnosis in March 2023, I guess consultant is worried oxygen could go too low while driving. Husband carries a pulse oximeter with him as well as an inhaler now. Consultant put in formal complaint to police. If husband had been left in cell he would have fallen unconscious. Husband feels less stressed now relaxing on trains.3 -
Husband has signed up for Co-op membership. I have signed up for an Ocado delivery pass and an Iceland bonus card. Husband can pick up stuff from Lidl by his office but not chilled or frozen. St Pancras has Holland & barrett, marks and spencer and Fortnum & Mason plus Boots.2

Tip for Iceland if you try them for deliveries - top up your bonus card first, then use it to pay for your online order, An extra free £1 for every £20 you top up. Takes about 3 or 4 minutes from an online top-up to be showing on the available bonus card balance. Same applies to in-store shopping.1

I think last time I was in a co-op they gave stamps.

So, we tried Co-op Irresistible Hereford beef burgers and to our surprise, they tasted really good ! Husband also liked the small pots of Co-op pineapple chunks, with his usual organic Pure Nature yogurt, for breakfast.
We will continue with our usual deliveries from ASDA, Iceland and now, Ocado. Shopping at Sainsbury's or Morrisons would be a bus or delivery job and I'm unimpressed by Morrisons delivery.
The idea is to try other shops for top ups. If those can be done before husband gets home, he won't need to walk to the local Tesco Express. I am using Amazon for boxes of 24 x 500ml bottles of Evian, delivered to our doorstep, free of charge. ASDA is often out of stock of Evian and Tesco Express too.

Co-op Irresistible Smooth Velvety Houmous. Part of a 3 for 2 deal so we got three pots for £5. No nasties other than rapeseed oil. I suspect that the reason that it's smooth, is whipping. It's more of a mousse than properly dense houmous. Jury out on this.
Co-op Irresistible 21 day matured sliced roast topside of beef. Minimum 4 slices. Tasty, not dry, no preservatives, looks like proper sliced beef. Red Tractor certified. Gluten free, low carb. 2 for £6 deal at the moment, 2 for £5 for members.
Tried Co-op delivery for the first time yesterday. Minimum order £15, and all the delivery slots were 2.99 although the website claimed that slots start at 99p. Bags (compostable) 10p each. They charge 10% extra to cover substitutes, but if you don't have any, that gets refunded 3-5 days later. Seems like a weird system. My slot was 17:00-18:00 and Co-op turned up on the dot of 5pm.

If you have the main Co-op- (Manchester based one) with turquoise blue card it might be worth signing up for their emails simply because it shows you their current member deals.
membership costs £1
Currently 2x ranch steaks & chips for 2 for £4 as an example (£5 to non members)
No longer any dividend.
we also have Lincs co-op- no charge for card, sometimes have the deals, but a decent dividend
All Co-ops are not the same!!!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
