Eta: Sorry I think after reading that all I can do is ignore unless they send a claim form, thanks for your help.

I've received a couple notices in the mail from the operator of a private car park at a rail station, saying that I neglected to pay when parking in March 2024 and owe a £155 fine. The number plate on the notices is not at all close to my number plate. I did park in the car park that day but didn't retain receipts and can't be sure if I paid. The most recent letter is from a solicitor threatening to take me to court and hold me responsible for their fees as well as the fine. Should I ignore this and let the court know that the number plate is wrong if it gets that far? Or contact the solicitor? Ignore entirely? Many thanks!

What do you mean by 'the numberplate is wring'?  Where exactly? On the photos? Wrong car entirely in the pictures?

No pictures were included with the letter, the number plate that is typed out in the letter is wrong. The letter is from PCOA parking.

No pictures were included with the letter, the number plate that is typed out in the letter is wrong. The car park operator is APCOA parking.

Send an online complaint to APCOA asking how they got your data because this car with VRM xxxx on the attached PCN isn't yours.

Out of interest do you hire/lease your own car or use a company vehicle sometimes? I'm wondering if a Fleet team who holds your data as a driver of vehicle X has wrongly named you to APCOA as connected to vehicle Y.

Aha! I had a rented vehicle supplied by an insurance company at that time due to a car accident and I'd forgotten I was driving it that day 😔 your comment prompted me to check the number plate and realize it was the hired vehicle. Does that mean I should pay? Or wait to see if they take me to court?

Of course you don't pay.  Nor will they take you to court. Not do you ignore it.

Nobody pays APCOA.  Read a few threads, and NEWBIES PLEASE READ THESE FAQS FIRST.
