DId anyone know CCL computers went into administration?

As a PC builder, CCL, overclockers and aria were my main source for computer parts. I used to use one of these to source parts. i knew aria shut down completely. But CCL has stealthily gone into administation and just relauched.

The used to trade under CCL COMPUTERS LIMITED, in March 2024 they changed to something silly like CCLCL REALISATIONS 2024 LIMITED probably to hide the company name off companies house.

Their new company name is called Chillblast Limited, they seem to just done a switcheroo.

It's a shame we are losing these companies who i feel are like retro computer parts shops. I grew up with these companies. I guess ebay & amazon have wiped them out.Combined with changing tastes where people aren't doing much desktop gaming any more.

I think it is changing buying patterns. Gaming laptops are a much bigger chunk of the market now than before, more people are buying prebuilt (hence Chilllblast) and Amazon have picked up a huge chunk of the parts only market. Scan and Overclockers seem to be fairly big in the parts market still, Scan have deals with nVidia on the FE cards and both also offer build to order. Overclockers and Scan do seem to be regularly cheaper than Amazon, only a small percentage but on high end parts or a whole system it can add up.

OMG every computer and part I have ever had came from CCL! They have been around forever - I remember their little shop over in Manningham. I did not know any of this - how sad. Not a builder myself (although I can tinker) but two old friends who were introduced them to me when any form of home computing was not common.

Chillblast has been around for years and years - it most definitely is not a new name

You can't hide a name on companies house.
    It is fully searchable.👍

Chillblast bought the trading business before the company was placed into administration. There are individuals common to both companies.

Yes, they must have taken over the name because I have just got an "Summer of Champions" promo e-mail from CCL in the last 30 minutes.

When a company goes into administration, one of the assets that can be sold off by the administrators is the company name (think about when The Range bought the Wilko name).

Obviously the original company can’t also keep the name and so the administrators will change the name usually by adding the year and Realisation(s) (Because the administrators job is to realise as much money as possible for the creditors of the old company)

why is everyone saying chillblast is an old company that bought the ccl name. go on chillblast.net, scroll to the bottom, get the company number (it's 15489941),  put that number in companies house. it's incorporated in February 2024. the company didn't exist before Feb 2024.

CCL computers have gone into administation, CCL computers ltd may have has chillblast as a trading name of ccl computers, if chillblast was a business before 2024.

The owners of ccl computers have set up a new company called chillblast ltd.

Edit: the plot thickens. Looked into archive.org 2022, chillblast.com was indeed a trading business its company numebr was 07450324, named Decision Logic Ltd. that company is in administraton too. Strong overlap over owners.

The two entities in administration and the newly form chillblast ltd have 2 common directors in all 3 of them. the ltd cos themselves are owned by other ltd cos so I dont have the inclination to keep chasing the ownership chain to find footprints.

People saying chillblast is some seperate company to ccl are completely wrong, they are linked and have common ownership

    its definitely interesting

As I said - the name “Chillblast” has been around for many years and they used to deal in some highly expensive/specialist hardware

Looking at their site - it has changed and their sales direction appears to have changed.

Certainly possible they have merged with the now defunct CCL
