Never, ever discuss personal business with strangers at the door, do not engage with them, and ask them to politely move along.

It was probably a Resolvecall rep or similar, debt purchasing companies specialise in buying up old debts that are iffy at best, they then assign the debts to collection companies to chase for them, some are door knockers, others may just write.

Anything to do with money or debt should only be conducted in writing, certainly not at the door, the limitation act allows 6 years for lenders to chase old debts, after which, with no payments or written acknowledgement they become statute barred.

Your response to this matter would be to send the statute barred letter to whoever called on you or is writing to you.

Do not answer the door to such folk in the future.
