No Claims Evidence Car insurance

Options
I recently provided proof of my no claims car insurance. The company wouldn't accept the evidence as it was from an existing policy. They asked for proof from a cancelled policy. Has anyone come across this in the past?

yes. you can only use no claim on a single policy at a time

is this for a second car or for a new policy on the same car?

Are you moving to a different insurer or insuring another vehicle ?  When your policy ends the insurer will supply evidence of your no claims to give to the new insurer.  You cannot use the no claims from a current policy on another policy.

  • Thanks for your feedback, I didn't realise you cant use the no claims from a current policy and yes its for a third car.

NCD is basically a marketing gimmick, if you stop and think about it very little about it makes sense, particularly when you introduce things like NCD Protection.

For motor its a fairly standardised thing across the industry but insurers do frequently try and differentiate themselves by changing their rules on NCD like it not being impacted on a claim for a hit and run or uninsured driver. One of the common features is that it should be considered indivisible, uncombinable and can't be cloned.

1 NCD can be used on 1 policy, if you have 20 years NCD and buy a second car you cannot divide the NCD into two 10 year NCDs, similarly if you had a 3 year NCD on one car and 2 years on a second but decide to drop the second car you cannot merge them to give you a 5 year NCD.

Back in the day NCD discounts could be as much as 70% and a few insurers still give this level but given the vast majority of drivers have maximum NCD it then becomes a bit silly to say its really that level of discount. As a consequence some insurers have adjusted their NCD scales to be much smaller. One poster here claimed the difference between maximum NCD and 0 NCD (but likely an introductory discount) was £5 for them.
  • Wow brilliant feedback thank you and I see what you mean about it makes very little sense.
