How long to hear back for a child benefit claim?

My partner and I both earn just below the £60k tapered threshold for claiming child benefit, we had a baby on 27th May this year and I completed the online child benefit application on 21st June. When I completed the application a message appears stating you WILL receive a response within 28 days...
So 19th July I log-in via the government gateway and input the date I made the application, the message reads 'You can expect a reply by 15 August 2024, we are currently processing requests received on 7 June 2027'
I logged in today out of interest (7th August) and the message reads 'You can expect a reply by 20 September 2024, we are currently processing claims received on 23rd May 2024'
I'm not sure if I'm missing something here but the expectant date for a reply is being pushed back quicker than time passes meaning I'm likely to never hear back? Also as this will push beyond the 3 months since our baby was born, will we still be backdated all payments despite the application being made within 1 month of birth (as I read somewhere only up to 3months' worth can be paid at once?).
I've had a browse around just about everywhere and short of potentially calling up and being on hold for hours on end (and potentially still no getting an answer) I was wondering if the lovely people on MSE could let me know their experience on the below
Many thanks

Hi, if you haven't heard already, you should call them. Expect a long wait on hold. We've had 2 tax issues and only got anywhere (not yet what we're due, but that's another story) after calling1

The best time to phone is as soon as lines open.
Start dialling just before time to be at the front of the queue,1 -
Thank you both, I'll give it a try at 7:59am in the next few days0

@Gspree, my daughter and her partner had a baby five weeks ago and applied online for child benefit on 12th July 2024. She heard back within a couple of weeks and had her first payment five days ago. We were surprised she heard back so quick, but yours seems to be taking too long so I’d definitely chase it up0
