Returning 7kg item - EBay supplied free RM QR code

Large item really ( 10 inch rim trailer wheel plus tyre ) was bought with free postage ( obviously factored into the BIN price ) but I needed it asap - unfortunately didn’t quite arrive in time so didn’t use it ( was there when I got back from the job ) sent via DHL
Started return process - does state they accept buyer funded returns ( fair enough -could be done for around £8 with Evri etc )
There was no provision in the drop down return menu for “didn’t arrive on time” so clicked “doesn’t match description or photos”
and gave my return reason in comments box
Ebay have supplied a RM QR code that says Free return ?!
What I fear is sending it back using RM ( that’s going to be expensive I think ) then the Company changes me the expensive RM return price ( because the return reason wasn’t on the list ) - where as I don’t mind sending it back and paying the Evri return costs

Unfortunately by opening a SNAD case you have forced the seller to pay for the return. You should have opened a change of mind return in this instance.
Seller will now be able to appeal the return on its arrival back, or use small claims against you to recover their costs if they choose. Whether they choose to or not no one can tell. However if a seller came on here and explained that a buyer had raised a false claim for SNAD , depending on the value, I think they would likely be told to make every attempt to recover their losses against the buyer.I wonder if it’s possible for you to try contacting the seller to see if you can make an arrangement for a return at your cost that is safe for both of you, or to appeal to eBay to change the return reason.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If the item arrived after the ETA SNAD is valid
If that’s the case OP phone eBay and they put the case on hold and advise the seller to sort the return.
If the item arrived within the ETA then as aboveIn the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces2 -

The ebay money back guarantee says- If the item doesn't match the listing description, or if it is faulty or arrived damaged, you may be eligible for eBay Money Back Guarantee. This means that you can return it even if the seller's returns policy says they don't accept returns
Regardless of that , ebay systems will allow any SNAD case to be opened as has happened in this case and would usually find automatically for the buyer. It may be that the seller won't take this further and just block the buyer from potential sales, if they do anything at all. However, depending on the cost they may seek to retrieve some of their losses.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. No, it certainly is not. If it wasn't by mistake like what the OP did, it would be lying and dishonest. Doubt you would be happy if you sold something and the buyer who just changed their mind, did this and made you foot the return postage costs. 😦
Not just that, it also negatively affects the seller's seller stats.1 -

the_lunatic_is_in_my_head is correct on how ebay treats items delivered that arrive "late"

Thanks all ( especially Soolin - reboot Blake’s 7 now ! - Doctor Who is purile )
received this message back from seller after my explanation to them via EBay messages
“Thank you for email and I really appreciate your concern at the reason for return option you selected, it's very rare to have someone be concerned about this as we get this all the time where customers just use this option knowing there is no problem with the item and we pick up the bill and it all adds up over the year.My suggestion would be if you're ok with this is to cancel the return and then no one is charged and then send it back through an evri drop off shop, to be honest evri are so cheap it probably won't be much different in cost to send with them as it would ebay.
I hope this helps and again thank you.”1
