Quick Update:  Got a reply from my email to CAP - unfortunately they cannot do applications solely over the phone or online and as there are no nearby Centres could only suggest the self-help pack or one of the other organisations.

So I think we will try Citizen's Advice next (as suggested by @stu12345_2 and @ManyWays ).

Will keep you all posted, thanks :)

No update yet - still waiting to get CA sorted due to health issues.

I have had an email from Resolver about 'Irresponsible lending by Banks' that I am going to look into for them.
It seems that you can make a claim to hold them accountable and potentially clear your debts.
However the claims (for compensation?) are made through their recommended provider 'Credit Claim' who charge a fee if you are awarded compensation.

I have never used them but thought that Resolver complaints/claims were free?

Has anyone else used this particular method to resolve their debt situation?

    Thanks :)

There's no need to pay anyone to make an affordability claim.

All the info you need is on debt camel

Mind you, if you're doing a DRO, what's the point?

Thanks for that link @fatbelly .  I am just looking at alternatives in case they cannot get a DRO when they apply with CA  :)

Hopefully it won't come to that but I like to try and be prepared

Bear in mind some strategies do not work well together. If you entered a DRO then got a windfall >£2000, you would lose the DRO under the asset rule

Hi, quick update. Due to an unexpected increase in their benefits and interest freeze on payments, the family member is looking at paying the debts off within the next 1 or 2 years.  I have advised them to now go down the affordability claim route with the banks concerned as I feel that this is the best option for them, and their circumstances.

I thank everyone for their input in this matter, and hope it helps others too.
