Travel insurance cover

Have just booked holiday for may 2025 and so doing insurance quotes however little confused as few of them when look into more info say the following "The Table Summarises what scenarios are and aren't covered REMEMBER - you will not be covered for anything that occurs before your cover start date"
But when filling in the questions it doesn't ask what date cover to start it just asks what day traveling and returning so what does this mean that mean if have to cancel before my travel date I'm not covered on insurance? Just wondering as Martin always says get insurance ASAB but what point if not covered till travel date?
Possibly a really stupid question but 1st time doing this Thanks

If it's a single trip policy you're looking at then cover (for cancellation, etc) should start from the date the policy is bought, so check the relevant definitions section of the documentation.0

Single trip policies start as soon as they are bought, for annual policies you specify a start date.shazk85 said:Have just booked holiday for may 2025 and so doing insurance quotes however little confused as few of them when look into more info say the following "The Table Summarises what scenarios are and aren't covered REMEMBER - you will not be covered for anything that occurs before your cover start date"

So you can't wait until you are told at work that you are in the cohort selected for redundancy, then buy the insurance policy and then expect them to cover your holiday because you've been made redundant.1 -
Ah thanks so much I have managed to find something that says Single trip policies: Your cover start and end date is the date you selected as shown on the policy schedule (except for trip cancellation cover, which starts from the date the policy is paid for).eskbanker said:If it's a single trip policy you're looking at then cover (for cancellation, etc) should start from the date the policy is bought, so check the relevant definitions section of the documentation.
So I see that now as I'm covered from the day I make payment if I have to cancel which is what i was expecting to see (I hope dont have to cancel lol)0
